Dr. Mallika Vijaya Kumar

Dr. Mallika Vijaya Kumar is an Assistant Professor, School of Media, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, with research and teaching interests in New Media Studies, Social Media Learning, Qualitative Communication, Environmental Communication, and Women and Media. She has been serving in the School of Media since July 2014 and has extensive experience in communication and media studies.

She completed her Ph.D. in Social Media Communication from Bharathiar University in 2015. She holds an M.A. in Communication (Film and Television Production) from the University of Hyderabad, completed with First Class in 1994, and a B.A. in History, Political Science and Public Administration from Osmania University, completed with First Class in 1991. She also holds a Diploma in French from Alliance Française.

Mallika Vijaya Kumar has made significant academic contributions through 12 international journal publications, 12 international conference publications, 10 national conference publications, and 7 book chapters during 2010–2025. Her scholarly interests are centred on contemporary media and communication, including new media, social media learning, qualitative communication, environmental communication, and women and media.

She passed SLET in Journalism and Mass Communication in 2000 and has contributed to research guidance as a supervisor, with 2 completed and 3 ongoing Ph.D. thesis advisings. Her professional experience also includes work as a Copywriter in the advertising industry in Hyderabad from 1993 to 1998 and as a faculty member in Communication and Media Studies from 1998 onwards.
