Dr. J. Vimalin Hena is an Assistant Professor in the Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry Division at the School of Agricultural Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. She has 19 years of teaching experience and 10 years of research experience. Her major research areas include microbial metabolite screening, metabolite formulation, and development.
Her research contributions include 59 research articles published in peer-reviewed, Scopus-indexed and high-impact-factor journals. She has also authored a book on Microbiological Techniques. Her research work includes the formulation and evaluation of a Ganoderma niosomal topical gel drug delivery system, for which a Government of India patent was granted in 2019. She has also undertaken research and outreach activities supported by TNSCST and in-house funding from Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences.
Dr. Vimalin Hena has guided 2 Ph.D. scholars to completion and is currently guiding 1 research scholar. She has also guided 8 M.Phil. students and 54 postgraduate students. Her academic contributions include organizing more than 12 seminars, workshops and training programmes and delivering 5 guest lectures in various fields of Microbiology. She has also served as an invited speaker at a national training programme on emerging waterborne microbial contaminants, monitoring and risk reduction through advanced biotechnological approaches.
She has received the Hargobind Khorana Best Young Scientist Award for 2020–2021 from the Nature Foundation and has received three Best Paper Presentation Awards and one Best Poster Presentation Award at national and international conferences. She has also served as a reviewer for journals including South Asian Journal of Research in Microbiology, Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, and African Journal of Clinical and Experimental Microbiology. Her academic and research contributions reflect her involvement in microbiological research, student guidance, scientific publications, and academic activities.
