Dr. S. Praveena Katharine

Dr. S. Praveena Katharine is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Soil Science at the School of Agricultural Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, along with an M.Sc. in Agriculture and a B.Sc. in Agriculture. She is also qualified in ASRB-NET in Soil Science and Soil Physics & Water Conservation.

Her areas of expertise include Soil Fertility Evaluation, Soil Chemistry, Soil Test Crop Response (STCR), Integrated Plant Nutrition System (IPNS), climate change and sustainable agriculture, soil health assessment, agrochemicals, and nutrient dynamics in cropping systems. Her research interests encompass STCR, IPNS, sustainable nutrient management, fertigation, precision agriculture, GIS and Remote Sensing, climate-smart agriculture, and soil health. She has handled courses including Fundamentals of Soil Science, Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management, Soil Chemistry, Agrochemicals, Environmental Soil Science, Precision Agriculture, Remote Sensing and GIS, and Sustainable Agriculture.

Dr. Praveena Katharine has published research articles in Scopus-indexed, Web of Science, and UGC CARE journals, along with review articles, books, and book chapters in Soil Science. Her publications cover areas such as soil fertility, STCR, climate change, nutrient management, fertigation, precision agriculture, and soil health. She has authored 7 books and 6 book chapters and has guided postgraduate and doctoral scholars as a Ph.D. Supervisor/Joint Supervisor, Ph.D. Advisory Committee Member, and M.Sc. Advisory Committee Member.

She has served as an Assistant Professor at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences since 2018 and currently serves as Ph.D. Coordinator at the School of Agricultural Sciences. Her academic and administrative responsibilities include student mentoring, curriculum development, research supervision, organizing workshops, conferences and faculty development programmes, and serving on academic and departmental committees. Her recognitions include the Best Doctoral Thesis Award, Scientist Associate Award, Best Research Paper Award, Best Presentation Award, World Environment and Livelihood Award, and WEED Award – 2025.
