Dr. Manjula B. S. is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Horticulture, School of Agricultural Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. She holds a Ph.D. in Horticulture with specialization in Floriculture and Landscape Architecture from the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, completed in 2021. She also holds a P.G. Diploma in Ornamental and Landscape Gardening from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, an M.Sc. in Horticulture with specialization in Floriculture and Landscape Architecture from the University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, and a B.Sc. in Horticulture from the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot. She qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board of ICAR in 2015–2016.
Her research interests include ornamental plant breeding and varietal evaluation, protected cultivation of flower crops, nursery management and propagation techniques, urban landscaping and sustainable landscape design, plant tissue culture and micropropagation of ornamental crops, and postharvest physiology and value addition of cut flowers. She has served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture at the College of Horticulture, Kolar, where she taught Ornamental Horticulture at the undergraduate level. She also worked as a Horticulturist at Invis Multimedia, Thiruvananthapuram, contributing to the establishment of Miyawaki forests in urban locations across Kerala and preparing documentation on plant species selection and suitability for Miyawaki forest development under Indian environmental conditions.
Dr. Manjula B. S. has contributed to research through publications covering ornamental crop improvement, varietal evaluation, propagation, salinity responses, postharvest management, plant growth regulation, rooting and survivability, and value addition of horticultural crops. Her recent publications include studies on postharvest quality of guava, salinity responses in mango and pomegranate, softwood grafting in Manila tamarind, salinity tolerance in Annona, seed germination and seedling growth, dragon fruit, nerium, banana, passion fruit, water apple, and silver nanoparticle applications. She has also published research on the evaluation, variability, heritability, genetic correlation, and path coefficient analysis of dahlia genotypes.
She has served as a reviewer for the Indian Journal of Agricultural Research and has supervised four postgraduate students in their academic and research activities, while currently supervising three postgraduate students and two Ph.D. students. Her professional achievements include receiving the Best Poster recognition for her presentation on morphological and genetic variability studies in dahlia at the National Symposium on Horticulture in the Vanguard of Climate Change and Urban Environment in 2019. Her academic, research, and professional experience reflects her contributions to floriculture, landscape architecture, ornamental crop improvement, protected cultivation, nursery management, propagation, and sustainable landscaping.
