Dr. V. Kavitha

Dr. V. Kavitha is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Agricultural Economics, School of Agricultural Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. She holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), an M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from TNAU, and a B.Sc. in Horticulture from the Horticultural College and Research Institute, TNAU, Periyakulam. She also completed the UGC Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Post-Doctorate Fellowship for Humanities and Social Sciences in Agricultural Economics. She has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board (ASRB).

Her academic and research work encompasses agricultural economics, organic farming, agricultural marketing, farm economics, agricultural credit, land and water resources, climate change, farm risk, crop productivity, and the socio-economic aspects of agriculture. Her research work includes studies on the impact of income on the nutritional status of rural households, the implications of intensive farming on land and water resources in Tamil Nadu, and organic farming. Prior to joining Karunya, she gained extensive research experience through projects associated with Cornell University, TNAU, the State Planning Commission, the Department of Economics and Statistics, Government of Tamil Nadu, and the University Grants Commission.

Dr. V. Kavitha has published research articles in national and international journals on agricultural marketing, organic farming, agricultural production, farm risk, agricultural credit, crop economics, land and water sustainability, and consumer preferences. Her publications include articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, along with research contributions in journals with NAAS ratings. She has also presented research papers and posters at national and international conferences on organic farming, agricultural credit, farm risk, water sustainability, small millet value addition, and related agricultural economics themes. She has authored and co-authored books on Agricultural Finance, Banking and Cooperation and Marketing of Horticultural Crops.

She has served as Co-Principal Director of an ICSSR-funded project titled “Assessing the socio economic impact of solar powered technologies in Tamil Nadu’s Agricultural landscape,” initiated in December 2024. Her recognitions include the Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Post-Doctorate Fellowship, Research Assistant Fellowship for Ph.D. scholars, Best Young Women Research Award, Young Scientist Award, Outstanding Post-Doctoral Fellow Award, and Research Excellence Award. She is a life member of the Agricultural Economics Research Association (AERA), India, and the Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing. She has also completed NPTEL courses in Marketing Management, Financial Accounting, Modern Food Packaging Technologies, and Technology Commercialization and New Product Development.
