Dr. N.B. John Kingsly

Dr. N.B. John Kingsly is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Genetics and Plant Breeding, School of Agricultural Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore. He holds a Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, completed in 2015, an M.Sc. (Agriculture) in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, completed in 2012, and a B.Sc. (Agriculture) from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, completed in 2009.

His research interests include plant genetic improvement and breeding, mutation breeding and genetic variability enhancement, molecular breeding and marker-assisted crop improvement, abiotic and biotic stress tolerance in crop plants, and sustainable crop improvement and climate-resilient agriculture. His completed research encompasses rice genetics, with emphasis on genetic diversity, drought and salinity tolerance, and bacterial leaf blight resistance, as well as genetic diversity and yield traits in green gram, fibre quality and lint yield in cotton, and mutation breeding in Chinese potato.

Dr. N.B. John Kingsly has contributed research articles and conference papers in the areas of crop genetics and breeding. His recent publications address genetic variability and seedling traits in rice, characterization of gamma-irradiated Chinese potato, bacterial leaf blight resistance in rice, salinity tolerance in rice seedlings, genetic diversity and yield traits in green gram, and genetic dissection of yield and fibre quality traits in cotton. He has also participated in specialized international workshops and practical courses on noncoding RNAs, embryonic development, cell differentiation, and circular RNA analysis at institutions in Israel and Germany.

He has successfully supervised seven M.Sc. research dissertations and is currently guiding three M.Sc. research projects and three Ph.D. scholars. His academic and research activities reflect a focus on genetic variability, crop improvement, stress tolerance, and the application of breeding approaches for sustainable agricultural development.
