Dr. P. Rajalakshmy is serving as Associate Professor and Head of the Division of Robotics Engineering in the School of Engineering and Technology at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. She has been associated with the institution since June 2005 and possesses over 21 years of teaching experience and 11 years of research experience. She holds a B.E. in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, an M.E. in Control and Instrumentation Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. Her areas of specialization include Sensor Technology, Signal Processing, Soft Computing, and Rehabilitation Robotics, with research interests focused on Rehabilitation Robotics and System Modeling and Simulation.
Her academic contributions include teaching a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in robotics, automation, sensors, signal processing, control systems, and soft computing. She has published 22 international journal papers and 10 national journal papers, presented 12 international and 12 national conference papers, participated in several conferences, workshops, and faculty development programmes, and has successfully guided 4 Ph.D. scholars and 15 master's projects. She is also a life member of ISTE, BMESI, and TRS, reflecting her active engagement with professional bodies.
Dr. Rajalakshmy has received several recognitions for her academic and research excellence, including the Best Teacher Award in 2013. She has successfully guided an international internship project in rehabilitation robotics and completed numerous professional certification courses through NPTEL, Coursera, MATLAB, and UiPath. She has also secured multiple funded research projects from organizations such as DRDO, Jasmin InfoTech Pvt. Ltd., Harvard Medical School, and KSTG for research in automation, healthcare systems, rehabilitation devices, and embedded technologies, demonstrating her strong involvement in externally funded research.
Her research portfolio spans areas such as rehabilitation robotics, sensor technology, biomedical instrumentation, control systems, embedded systems, industrial automation, system modeling, and signal processing. In addition to her journal and conference publications, she has filed a patent for a novel volume measurement system for irregular shaped tanks and has authored a book and book chapters related to instrumentation, engineering applications, and biomedical signal processing. Her sustained contributions to research, innovation, teaching, and academic leadership have established her as an experienced faculty member in the field of Robotics Engineering.
