Dr. J. David Raja Selvam is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Robotics Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology, at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, where he joined in July 2007. He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.Tech. in Engineering Design, a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, and has completed Post-Doctoral Research at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He has over 16 years and 6 months of teaching experience, nearly 4 years of industry experience, and research experience in advanced manufacturing. His areas of specialization include CAD/CAM, Additive Manufacturing, Design and Manufacturing, with research interests in Digital Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, Surface Composites, Friction Stir Processing, and Laser Welding.
Dr. David Raja Selvam has made significant contributions to teaching, research, and academic development. He has published 40 international journal papers and presented research papers at national and international conferences. He has guided four master's projects and actively participated in seminars, workshops, faculty development programmes, and professional activities. He is a Life Member of the Indian Institute of Production Engineers (IIPE), the Welding Society of India, and a member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG). He also serves as a reviewer for several reputed international journals in the fields of materials science and manufacturing.
He has successfully completed a funded CARS research project as Principal Investigator on the ballistic performance of aluminium metal matrix composite foam. His academic excellence has been recognized through several prestigious achievements, including a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Johannesburg, the India's Inspiring Teachers Award 2021, and multiple research articles being listed among the Top 25 hottest articles in Elsevier journals. He also collaborates with leading international institutions in South Africa, China, Turkey, and Hungary, strengthening his global research engagement.
His research focuses on additive manufacturing, digital manufacturing, metal matrix composites, friction stir processing, laser welding, advanced materials, and machining of composite materials. In addition to his journal and conference publications, he has authored a book chapter on metal matrix composites and serves as a reviewer for several high-impact international journals published by Elsevier and Springer. His sustained contributions to advanced manufacturing research, international collaboration, and engineering education reflect his expertise in Robotics Engineering and manufacturing technologies.
