Dr. R. Vinodh

Dr. R. Vinodh, Professor (Research), is a faculty member at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Tamil Nadu. He joined the institution in June 2026 and has over 17 years of research experience in electrochemistry and energy-related materials. He completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Pachaiyappa’s College and M.Sc. in Chemistry from Madras Christian College, both affiliated with the University of Madras. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Anna University, Chennai, in 2012, with doctoral research focused on fuel cells and polymeric membranes.

His research expertise encompasses CO₂ electrolysis and glycerol oxidation reactions in neutral media, water electrolysis and the development of electrocatalysts for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions, membrane electrode assembly fabrication, supercapacitors, CO₂ adsorption, porous adsorbents, hypercross-linked polymers, zeolites, and fuel-cell technologies. His work also includes polymeric membranes, alkaline membrane fuel cells, advanced electrocatalysts, and energy-storage materials. He has authored more than 135 research publications in reputed international journals, with approximately 7,000 citations, and has contributed to 6 book chapters.

Dr. Vinodh has contributed to research on electrocatalytic oxygen evolution, water electrolysis, supercapacitors, anion exchange membranes, carbon-based materials, and advanced energy-storage systems. His research has resulted in an Indian patent, Patent No. 427396, titled “A novel anion exchange membrane for fuel cell application.” He has also authored and contributed to book chapters published by Elsevier, Springer Nature, and other academic publishers, covering topics including MXene-polymer composites, flexible and wearable supercapacitors, polymer-based hybrid nanostructures, flexible ceramics, bioinspired nanomaterials, and carbon nitride materials.

Before joining Karunya, Dr. Vinodh held academic and research positions in South Korea and Canada. He served as an Assistant Professor at Hanseo University, South Korea, and subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Pusan National University. In Canada, he served as a Research Associate at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and the University of Calgary. His professional recognitions include recognition among the Top 2% Scientists Worldwide for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, postdoctoral fellowships in South Korea and Canada, multiple Best Paper Awards, and research travel funding from CSIR and DST. He is also a Life Member of the Society for Materials Chemistry and has presented his research at 68 national and international conferences.
