Dr. S. Rajesh is a Professor of Physics in the Division of Physical Sciences, School of Sciences, Arts and Media, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He has been associated with the institution since February 2002 and has 24 years of teaching experience and 30 years of research experience. He completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Physics from Bharathiar University, with First Class in his B.Sc. and M.Sc. His Ph.D. was awarded in May 2002. His research interests include multiple quantum well structures, thin film technology, hyperspectral imaging, nanotechnology, and nanomaterials.
His research encompasses thin-film technology, quantum devices, energy materials, hyperspectral imaging, nanostructured materials, and device-oriented materials research. His scholarly contributions include 100 international journal publications and research on piezoelectric energy harvesting, thermoelectric thin films, lithium-based energy-storage materials, photocatalysis, graphene-based nanocomposites, quantum-confined semiconductor structures, and functional oxide thin films. His recent research includes TiO₂-based materials, AlN/PVDF-HFP nanocomposite fibers, multilayer thermoelectric thin films, piezoelectric nanogenerators, and materials for memristive applications.
Dr. Rajesh has guided 15 Ph.D. scholars to completion and currently has 5 Ph.D. scholars pursuing research under his supervision. He has also guided 4 M.Phil. scholars and 25 M.Sc. project students. His doctoral research supervision has covered thermoelectric metal chalcogenide thin films, nanogenerators, graphene–carbon nanotube nanohybrids, vanadium-based energy-storage materials, quantum-confined semiconductor structures, pulsed-laser-deposited thin films, biomedical nanostructures, solar-spectrum utilization, gas-sensing materials, and dilute magnetic semiconductors. He has also contributed to externally funded research projects, including NM-ICPS projects at IIT Mandi, IIT Indore, and IIT Tirupati, a DST-EMR project, and a DST Nanomission-supported postgraduate programme in Nanotechnology.
His research contributions include 11 patents covering electrolyte membranes, dye-removal materials, electroadhesive materials, antimicrobial polymeric nanofabrics, thin-film nanostructures, graphene-based composites, exosuit technologies, and nanomaterial-based applications. His funded research includes projects on hyperspectral imaging for remote sensing, AI-integrated hyperspectral imaging for cervical cancer diagnosis, exoskeleton development, LiV₃O₈ battery materials, and postgraduate education in Nanotechnology. He is a member of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers and has participated in and organized academic conferences, workshops, symposiums, and faculty development programmes. He currently contributes to undergraduate teaching in Physics for Robotics and Digital System Design.
