Dr. K. Parameswari

Dr. K. Parameswari, Professor and HoD of Physical Sciences, is a faculty member in the Department of Physical Sciences, School of Arts and Science, at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Karunya University, completed in 2011, an M.Phil. in Chemistry from Bharathiar University in 2005, an M.Sc. in Chemistry from PSGCAS in 1990, and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from JACAS in 1987. Her academic and research work is primarily focused on electrochemical treatment and environmental remediation.

Her research interests include modified metal electrodes for electrocoagulation-based effluent remediation in textile industries, preparation and characterization of Ti/TiO₂ electrodes using different methods, and the development and optimization of Ti/TiO₂ electrodes with anatase phase for enhanced electrocatalytic activity. Her research also addresses electrocoagulation processes for textile wastewater treatment, dye removal, water reuse, photocatalytic degradation, and related environmental applications.

Dr. K. Parameswari has contributed extensively to Scopus-indexed research publications in electrocoagulation, textile wastewater remediation, dye degradation, Ti/TiO₂ electrodes, photocatalysis, and environmental chemistry. Her research contributions include funded projects such as a Karunya Seed Money Grant for photodegradation of organic dyestuff and a DST-TM/WTI-funded project of ₹37.096 lakh on a TiO₂-coated aluminium electrode for treatment of textile dyeing wastewater. She has also been associated with the FIST-DST 2023 Environmental Isotope Hydrology and Geochemistry Facility project. Her intellectual property includes three patents related to textile effluent treatment and electrocoagulation.

Her scholarly contributions also include four book chapters covering Ti/TiO₂ electrodes, electrocatalytic and photocatalytic applications, nanomaterials, and textile wastewater treatment. She has received several recognitions, including the Best Teacher Award (2012) from Karunya University, the Aqua Foundation Excellence Award (2016) for Development of Technology, the Achiever’s Award (2016–17) for obtaining a DST-WTI funded project, a Best Paper Award (2017), the Best Research Award (2020), and the Prominent Achiever’s Award – Alumni (2023). She has supervised 3 Ph.D. scholars as supervisor, 3 as joint supervisor, and 1 M.Phil. scholar, and has professional and academic associations with several institutions and industry collaborators.
