Dr. S. J. Vijay

Dr. S. J. Vijay serves as the Registrar and is a Professor in the Division of Mechanical Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University and an M.E. in CAD/CAM from Anna University. He completed his B.E. in Production Engineering from Bharathiar University. His teaching interests include Additive Manufacturing, Manufacturing Processes, and Materials Science and Engineering.

His research interests include additive manufacturing with a focus on process and technology development, friction stir welding and allied processes, composite materials for electrical applications, and carbon nanomaterials for electronic applications. His research projects include friction stir welding of aluminum matrix composites, funded by NRB with an amount of Rs. 62.5 lakhs, and metal matrix foam for armor applications, funded by CVRDE with an amount of Rs. 22.0 lakhs.

Dr. S. J. Vijay has published 58 international journal papers and 41 international and national conference papers. His publications have received 1,118 Scopus citations and 1,508 Google Scholar citations, with an h-index of 15. His research contributions include publications in areas related to additive manufacturing, friction stir welding, composite materials, carbon nanomaterials, and related mechanical and materials engineering applications.

He has guided 2 Ph.D. scholars and 12 M.E. scholars to completion, with 4 Ph.D. scholars currently under guidance. He holds seven patents, including patents related to brushless DC motor cores, PAN-Fe₂O₃ magnetic composites, friction stir welding, ergonomic computer and laptop accessories, and brushless DC motor windings. He has also served as an editorial board member of S N Applied Science Journal, Springer, since 2019, and worked as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Carbon Technology, Jeonju University, South Korea.
