Dr. Rajakumar S. Rai

Dr. Rajakumar S. Rai is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Mechanical Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai (2016), an M.E. in Computer Aided Design from the University of Madras, Chennai (2002), and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore (2001). His research interests include Additive Manufacturing, Composite Materials, and Computer Aided Design.

His research work focuses on additive manufacturing, composite materials, CAD, rapid prototyping, and mechanical design. He has published 8 international journal papers and 11 international/national conference papers, with 29 Scopus citations and an h-index of 4. He has also contributed a patent titled Integrated Bustle and Carousal Two Piece Ammunition Autoloader for Armored Fighting Vehicle and Method Thereof, for which the report has been submitted.

Dr. Rajakumar S. Rai has undertaken a research project on the design and development of a patient carrying and transferring device with easy lift, funded by Boston Children's Hospital & Harvard Medical School with an amount of Rs. 1.57 lakhs during 2017–2018. His research guidance includes 1 ongoing Ph.D. thesis and 6 completed Master's theses.

He has extensive academic experience in Mechanical Engineering at KITS, serving as Assistant Professor from 2011 onwards and previously as Assistant Professor from 2009–2011, Senior Lecturer from 2006–2008, and Lecturer from 2003–2006. His teaching interests include Engineering Mechanics, Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery, Design of Transmission Systems, Strength of Materials/Mechanics of Solids, Design of Machine Elements, Computer Aided Design, and Rapid Prototyping and Tooling.
