Dr. Godson Asirvatham Lazarus currently serves as the Deputy Director for Sponsored Projects and Grants and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, India. With over 24 years of extensive experience in teaching and research, he earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai, in 2011, with a specialization in nanofluid heat transfer. His primary research interests encompass thermal systems design and optimization techniques using AI/ML algorithms, thermal management of miniaturized electronic devices and electric vehicles, renewable energy technologies, thermal desalination technologies, development of sustainable medical devices and sensors, elastocaloric and ionic cooling systems design, shape memory alloys for microscale heat transfer enhancement applications, and design of sustainable thermoelectric refrigeration and power generation systems.
Godson's scholarly publications have received global recognition, with Stanford University consistently ranking him among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for six consecutive years (2020–2025). He has published more than 120 research articles in esteemed international journals, amassing over 6,031 citations and achieving an h-index of 39, as per Google Scholar. In addition to his research publications, he actively serves as an editorial board member of JP Journal of Heat & Mass Transfer, Pushpa Publishing House, since 2019, and as a reviewer for numerous high-impact international journals. His innovations are reflected in five granted patents and nine additional published patents.
He has successfully led and contributed to multiple funded research projects as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, with cumulative funding of ₹5 crores (₹50 million INR). These initiatives are supported by prominent Indian government agencies, including the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Board of Research in Fusion Science and Technology (BRFST), the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Currently, he oversees an ongoing project on thermal desalination with funding of ₹4.5 crores (₹45 million INR). He also leads the Centre for Research in Material Science and Thermal Management (CRMS&TM) within the Mechanical Engineering Department, focusing on cutting-edge research in thermal management for diverse applications such as electronic devices, electric vehicle battery cooling, and automobile engine cooling.
His expertise extends to consultancy and testing services for academic and industrial institutions. He has successfully guided seven Ph.D. scholars and fifteen Master's students and is currently supervising five doctoral candidates, all contributing significantly to advancements in heat transfer, biomedical technologies, sustainable energy, and heat pipe technologies. In recognition of his academic and research contributions, Godson has received several national and international awards from prestigious organizations.
