Dr. A. Brusly Solomon is an Associate Professor in the Division of Mechanical Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from KITs (2014), an M.E. in Thermal Engineering from KITs (2006), and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bharathiar University (2004). His research interests include natural convection and phase change heat transfer enhancement using ferrofluids, thermo-physical properties of ferrofluids, mathematical modelling of passive heat transfer and energy storage devices, and electronic cooling using textured micro- and nano-coated surfaces.
His research work focuses on heat transfer enhancement, thermal systems, ferrofluid-based applications, heat pipes, and electronic cooling. He has published 43 international journal papers and 17 international/national conference papers, with 800 Scopus citations, 1067 Google Scholar citations, and an h-index of 17. He has also contributed three patents related to magnetically assisted heat pipes, anodized micro fins for enhanced heat transfer, and friction stir welding technology.
Dr. Brusly Solomon has undertaken a DST–SERB funded research project on the development and characterization of anodized heat pipes for electronic cooling applications, with funding of Rs. 23.18 lakhs during 2017–2020. He has served as Guest Editor for Frontiers in Energy Research and the Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering. His research guidance includes 1 completed and 3 ongoing Ph.D. theses and 13 completed Master's theses.
He has extensive academic and research experience, serving as Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at KITs from 2018 onwards and previously as Assistant Professor from 2015–2018. He has also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, from 2015–2017, Scientific Officer in the Dean Research Office at KITs from 2008–2015, and Research Associate from 2006–2008. His teaching interests include Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Systems, and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
