Dr. Gadudasu Babu Rao is an Associate Professor in the Division of Mechanical Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Karunya University (2017), an M.E. in Manufacturing Engineering from Anna University (2001), and a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Nagarjuna University (1999). His research interests include Manufacturing and Automation, Biomaterials and Medical Equipment Design, Rehabilitation and Medical Robotics, Mechatronics, Assistive Wearable Devices, Fluid Power Automation, and Soft Pneumatic Artificial Muscles for Mechatronics Applications.
His research activities focus on medical equipment, rehabilitation and medical robotics, assistive technologies, mechatronics, automation, and soft material actuators. He has published 19 international journal papers and 12 international/national conference papers, with 15 Scopus citations, 15 Google Scholar citations, and an h-index of 2. He has also contributed four patents covering cervical cancer screening, an escalator for elderly or physically challenged persons, an artificial intelligent ergonomic laptop stand, and an intelligent ergo-computer chair.
Dr. Gadudasu Babu Rao has undertaken research projects funded by DST–TDP-BDTD and DST-SEED TIDE, including SWASTHYA, focused on an affordable smartphone-based cervical cancer screening unit for rural populations, and SUJEEV, focused on smart steps for elderly or differently abled people to travel safely and comfortably in public vehicles. His research guidance includes 2 ongoing Ph.D. theses and 5 completed Master's theses.
He has extensive academic experience in Mechanical Engineering, serving as Associate Professor at KITS from August 2021 onwards. He previously served as Assistant Professor at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences from 2008–2021 and at Adam's Engineering College, Khammam, Telangana, from 2001–2008. His teaching interests include Fluid Power Control Engineering, Medical Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting, Industrial Robotics, and Biomaterials Engineering.
