Dr. J. Jayakumar is a Professor, Division of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, with 21 years of professional experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Power System Optimization from Anna University, Chennai, an M.E. in Power System Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, with First Class with Distinction, and a B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, with First Class. He has served Karunya University in various academic positions including Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, and has been serving as Professor since June 2018.
His research interests include Distributed Generation, Smart Grid, Power System, Economic Dispatch, Optimization Techniques, Renewable Energy, Cloud Computing, Battery Monitoring Systems for Electric Vehicles, Cyber Security, Electric Vehicles, and Reactive Power Management. His teaching interests include Control Systems, Power Systems, Smart Grid, Big Data Analysis, Electrical Machines, Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Microgrid, MATLAB Programming, and Digital Signal Processing. He has guided 10 Ph.D. scholars whose degrees have been awarded.
Dr. Jayakumar has published 70 papers in international journals and 30 papers in conferences. His research activities have received funding from IEEE Educational Activities, USA; the University Grants Commission, Government of India; the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology; and the Indian Council of Medical Research. His funded research includes work related to IEEE 802 communication protocols for Smart Grid applications, Smart Grid test-bed development, CO₂ capturing using BioChar cake, and development and assessment of a portable oxygen concentrator.
He has filed a patent for an Intelligent Integrated Control System for Electric Vehicle Battery. He has organized 20 programmes and delivered 15 technical invited talks. His international academic visits include participation in an International Summit on Water Technology at Technion University, Israel, research interaction at University of Putra, Malaysia, and a visit to the Power Electronics Drives Lab at the National University of Singapore, Singapore.
