Dr. R. Chitra

Dr. R. Chitra is an Associate Professor (Regular) in Computer Science and Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, along with a B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the same university. Her research interests include Machine Learning and Deep Science. She has been associated with academic teaching and research since 2003.

She joined Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences as an Associate Professor in 2021. Prior to this, she served as Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education. Her teaching interests include Data Science, System Software and Compiler Design, Data Structures and Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Advanced Computer Architecture, Database Management Systems, Operating Systems, Data Mining and Warehousing, Neural Networks and their Applications, and Microprocessors and Microcontrollers.

Her research contributions include 28 international journal publications and 36 international/national conference publications. She has received 42 Scopus citations and 697 Google Scholar citations, with an h-index of 4. She has guided 10 Master of Engineering theses to completion and is currently guiding 8 Ph.D. scholars. Her academic and research interests encompass Machine Learning and Deep Science, supported by her teaching, research guidance, and publication contributions.

She has contributed to the consultancy project Ambulance Intimation System using LORA, funded by Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital, with funding of Rs. 23,400 in 2023. She has also contributed to four patent applications covering heart attack prediction using cloud healthcare data, user modeling for recommender systems, IoT-based air quality monitoring, and IoT-based home automation. She authored the textbook Data Structures, published by RK Publications in 2023, and holds IBM certifications in Database and Rational Functional Tester technologies.
