Dr. Kumudha Raimond is a Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, with extensive academic, research, and industry experience. She holds a Ph.D. in Artificial Neural Networks from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, an M.E. in Applied Electronics from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, and a B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Madras University. She joined Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences on 12 December 2011 and has served as Professor in Computer Science and Engineering since then. Prior to joining Karunya, she served as Associate Professor at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and held academic and industry positions at John F. Welch Technology Centre, GEITC, SVCE, American College, and other engineering institutions.
Her area of interest includes Medical Image Processing, Satellite Image Processing, Soft Computing, Machine Learning Techniques, Deep Learning, Data Science, Big Data Analytics, and Biomedical Text Processing. Her teaching interests encompass Deep Learning, Machine Learning Techniques, Advanced Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence for Mechanical Systems, Soft Computing, Introduction to Data Science, Big Data Analytics, Advanced Data Mining, Advanced Database Systems, and Distributed Systems. Her academic interests span artificial intelligence, computational intelligence, data-driven technologies, image processing, and advanced machine learning applications.
Dr. Kumudha Raimond has made significant contributions to research through 48 international journal publications and 39 international and national conference publications. Her research publications have received 289 Scopus citations and 740 Google Scholar citations, with an h-index of 10. She has also been involved in the development of “SWASTHYA – Development of Cost Effective Affordable Cervical Cancer Screening Unit based on Smartphone Technology for Rural Population,” a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST-BDTD) with a sanctioned amount of Rs. 18,53,153 during 2020–2021. She is also associated with the patent “Specnoscope Plus – an Indigenous Cervical Cancer Screening Unit,” filed under Indian Patent Application No. 202241060190 in 2022 and published. Her research guidance includes one completed and three ongoing Ph.D. theses, along with 34 completed Master’s theses.
With extensive experience spanning academia, research, and industry, Dr. Kumudha Raimond has developed a strong academic profile in Computer Science and Engineering and related interdisciplinary areas. Her long-standing academic career includes experience in teaching, academic leadership, engineering, and research across India and Ethiopia.
