Dr. Satya Sundar Mohanty

Dr. Satya Sundar Mohanty, M.Tech., Ph.D., Post Doc, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biotechnology, School of Agriculture and Biosciences, KITS. He joined KITS on 05/07/2021. He completed his B.Tech. from ICFAI University, Dehradun, in 2012, M.Tech. from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Division of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering, in 2012, and Ph.D. from the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Division of Chemical Engineering, in 2020. He completed his Postdoctoral work at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati during 2022–2024.

His teaching areas include Bioprocess Calculations, Enzyme Technology, Biochemical Thermodynamics, Molecular Medicine, and Stoichiometric Calculations. His research interests include environmental biotechnology, algae technology, wastewater treatment and valorization, and recombinant DNA technology.

His recent research publications focus on the valorization of Chlorella thermophila biomass cultivated in dairy wastewater for biopesticide production, production of broad-spectrum biopesticides from Monoraphidium species grown in simulated dairy wastewater, biodegradation of herbicides using immobilized microbial consortia in packed-bed biofilm reactors, microbial degradation of glyphosate, and mass transfer studies associated with butachlor biodegradation. These contributions have been published in journals including BMC Plant Biology, Bioresource Technology, Frontiers in Chemical Engineering, Geomicrobiology Journal, and The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Satya Sundar Mohanty is a member of the Biotech Research Society India and the Australasian Practical Zero-Emissions Society. His academic and research profile focuses on environmental biotechnology, algae-based technology, wastewater treatment and valorization, microbial degradation of pollutants, biopesticide production, and related bioprocess applications.
