Dr. S. Kavitha

Dr. S. Kavitha, M.Sc., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor who joined the institution on 28/01/2008. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, in 2008, M.Sc. in Microbiology from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, in 2003, and B.Sc. in Microbiology from Mother Teresa Women's University, Kodaikanal, in 2001.

Her teaching areas include Microbiology, Cell Biology, Environmental Biotechnology, Industrial Effluent Treatment, and Entrepreneurship, IPR and Biosafety. Her research interests include microbial and environmental biotechnology, water treatment technology and microbial fuel cells, and nanobiotechnology.

Her recent research publications cover areas such as imidazole-based chemosensors and their biological applications, electrocoagulation mechanisms for dye removal from aqueous solutions, bacterial degradation of chrysene from oil-contaminated water, electrocoagulation-based removal of anthraquinone dyes, and fluoride adsorption using wattle humus biosorbents. Her research contributions have been published in journals including Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Water Science and Technology, International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, and Environmental Science and Pollution Research.

Dr. Kavitha has completed an R&D project funded by the DRDO-Defence Research Laboratory, Tezpur, with funding of INR 9.07 lakhs, and a Karunya Short Term Research Grant project on the feasibility of seed materials for fluoride removal from groundwater. She has published patents related to carbonized wattle humus, biosynthesis of isopropyl myristate, and a microbial fuel cell for generating electricity from wastewater. She is a lifetime member of the International Society for Fluoride Research.
