Dr. A.S. Ruby Celsia

Dr. A.S. Ruby Celsia is an Assistant Professor of Biotechnology at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, India. She holds B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. degrees in Biotechnology from Mepco Schlenk Engineering College. Her professional experience includes nearly four years of full-time teaching and three years as a Junior Research Fellow under a DST Nanomission-funded project worth ₹22 lakh.

Her research interests include nanobiotechnology, green nanotechnology, nanomaterial synthesis and characterization, microbial biofilms, biomedical materials, animal model research, food product development, and sustainable packaging. Her current research focuses on developing bioactive edible coatings to extend food shelf life and safety, eco-friendly botanical extraction methods for zero-waste packaging, and nanosensors for food quality monitoring.

Dr. Ruby Celsia has published 34 journal articles and contributed to 16 books and book chapters, with publications involving reputed publishers such as Springer, Elsevier, CRC Press, and IGI Global. She holds three granted patents, with four additional patents filed, and has deposited 25 nucleotide sequences in the NCBI GenBank database. Her research contributions have been recognized through the InRes Academic Excellence Award (2024), the Best Researcher Award (2024), and several best paper, best poster, and young researcher awards at national and international conferences.

She has served in academic and administrative roles, including IQAC in-charge, NBA/NAAC/AQAR Coordinator, Division Project Coordinator, Research and Development Coordinator, and Programme Coordinator. She is an AICTE-certified Universal Human Values Educator, an Anna University-recognized research supervisor, and a Wadhwani Foundation-certified Entrepreneurship Educator. She is also a member of several professional and technical organizations and serves as a peer reviewer for Springer Nature, Bentham Publications, IGI Global, and ACS Books.

As an educator, Dr. Ruby Celsia emphasizes Outcome-Based Education, case-study-based learning, interactive teaching, and hands-on laboratory training to connect biotechnology theory with real-world applications. She actively mentors students in research publications and innovative final-year projects, fostering research skills and industry-relevant competencies.
