Dr. A.S. Ruby Celsia

Dr. A.S. Ruby Celsia is an Associate Professor in the Division of Biotechnology at Prathyusha Engineering College, a position she has held since October 2025. She previously served as Assistant Professor at K.S. Rangasamy College of Technology (February 2022 – September 2025), as a Junior Research Fellow at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College (June 2016 – June 2019) on a DST Nanomission-funded project worth Rs. 22 lakh under the mentorship of Dr. R. Mala, and as a Teaching Assistant at the same institution (June 2015 – May 2016). She earned her Ph.D. in Biotechnology (2017–2022), M.Tech. in Biotechnology (2014–2016), and B.Tech. in Biotechnology (2010–2014), all from Mepco Schlenk Engineering College.

She currently serves as her Division's IQAC in-charge and NBA/NAAC/AQAR Coordinator, and has held roles including Division Project Coordinator, Research and Development Coordinator, and Programme Coordinator. She is an AICTE-certified Universal Human Values (UHV) Educator, an Anna University-recognized research supervisor, and a Wadhwani Foundation-certified Entrepreneurship Educator, alongside recent certifications in AI literacy and research ranking and accreditation.

Her research sits at the intersection of biotechnology and green nanotechnology, spanning animal model research, microbial biofilm control, nanomaterial synthesis and characterization, and food product development. Her current work focuses on developing sustainable, bioactive-infused edible coatings to extend food shelf life and safety, eco-friendly botanical extraction methods for zero-waste packaging, and nanosensors for food quality monitoring, building on earlier work in nanobiomaterials, medical implants, and in vivo models.

She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than a dozen book chapters with publishers including Springer, Elsevier, CRC Press, and IGI Global, and has presented at over 50 national and international conferences. She holds seven patents spanning nano-fertilizers, wound-healing materials, and food formulations, several of which have been granted. She has also contributed 25 novel bacterial nucleotide sequences to the NCBI GenBank database. Her research has been recognized with the InRes Academic Excellence Award (2024), the Best Researcher Award from the National Foundation for Innovative Scientific Research and Technology (2024), and multiple best paper, best poster, and young researcher awards at national and international conferences dating back to 2014.

She is a lifetime member of the Indian Society for Technical Education, the International Association of Engineers (IAENG), the InRes Institute of Researchers, and the Tech Forum Research Foundation, a full member of the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists India, and a professional member of the Institution of Green Engineering. She also serves as a peer reviewer for Springer Nature, Bentham Publications, IGI Global, and the American Chemical Society (ACS) Books.

As an educator, Dr. Ruby Celsia is committed to Outcome-Based Education, using interactive and case-study-driven teaching to bridge theoretical biotechnology with real-world, industry-ready applications, while actively mentoring students toward research publications and impactful final-year projects.
