Dr. M. Lakshmi Prabha, M.Sc., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor (AGP 8000) who joined the institution on 07/10/2006. She obtained her Ph.D. from Bharathiar University in 2008, M.Sc. in 2001, and B.Sc. in 1998 from the same university.
Her teaching areas include Biochemistry, Role of Biotechnology, Industrial Effluent Treatment, Medical Biochemistry, and Metabolism and Bioenergetics. Her research interests include wastewater treatment, vermitechnology, waste management, and anti-diabetic activity.
Her recent research publications cover areas such as the health benefits of bishop weed and nutmeg, characterization and molecular identification of polyurethane-degrading bacteria, laccase-mediated biodegradation of low-density polyethylene and textile industrial effluent dyes, and biosorption-based removal of hexavalent chromium from paint industry effluent using biochar.
Dr. M. Lakshmi Prabha has handled research projects on biosorption of hexavalent chromium using fungi isolated from tannery sludge, the effect of vermicompost on the growth of Capsicum annum, electric potential generation from vermicomposting of spent tea waste using Eudrilus eugeniae, wound-healing properties of Symplocos racemosa, the protective effect of 1,2-diazole on B16F-10-induced lung metastasis, and the anti-inflammatory effect of Averrhoa bilimbi extract in Balb/C mice. She is a member of the International Society for Applied Life Sciences and the Global Economic Progress and Research Association.
