Dr. Biswanath Mahanty

Dr. Biswanath Mahanty, M.Tech., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor. He joined the institution on 18/07/2016. He completed his B.Pharmacy and M.Tech. from Jadavpur University, India, in 2001 and 2003 respectively, and obtained his Ph.D. from IIT Guwahati, India, in 2009. He completed his Postdoctoral research at the University of Ulsan, South Korea, in 2011.

Dr. Mahanty has teaching experience in Bioprocess Modelling and Simulation, Metabolic Regulation and Engineering, Biochemical Thermodynamics, Downstream Processing, and Chemical Reaction Engineering. His research interests include anaerobic digestion of agro-industrial waste, microbial carbon capture, utilization and storage, removal of organic and inorganic contaminants in soil-water systems, dynamic modelling and optimization of bioprocesses, and development of variable selection algorithms for regression and classification.

His research publications cover areas such as waste-activated sludge treatment and COD fractionation, antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of plant extracts, microbial polyhydroxyalkanoate production, dynamic modelling of microbial toxicity assays, and optimized drug release using starch-PVA hydrogel films. His recent research contributions have been published in journals including Environmental Quality Management, 3 Biotech, Biotechnology Journal, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, and Journal of Polymer Research.

Dr. Mahanty is a member of the American Chemical Society. His academic and research profile focuses on bioprocess modelling and optimization, environmental biotechnology, anaerobic digestion, microbial carbon capture and utilization, contaminant removal, and related biochemical and bioprocess engineering areas.
