Dr. S. Thomas George, M.E., Ph.D. is a Professor and Head, Division of Biomedical Engineering, at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Coimbatore, with 24 years of experience, and currently serves as Deputy Director of Research. His research interests include Biosignal Processing, Image Processing, Medical Electronics and AI in Healthcare, Neural Engineering, and Optimization. He completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Signal Processing from Karunya University in May 2014 through part-time mode, his M.E. in Applied Electronics from Karunya University in April 2002 with First Class with Distinction, and his B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bharathiar University in April 1997 with First Class. His teaching interests include Advanced Medical Signal Processing, Advanced Medical Image Processing, Digital Signal Processing, Control Systems, and Medical Electronics.
His research projects include the completed project "Enhanced Source Separation Tool for Interrogating Neurological (Seizures) Disorders," funded by DST-TDP with Rs. 47,00,000 during 2016–2018, and the ongoing project "Design and development of an adaptive brain computer interface (BCI) based assistive tool for paralytic people," funded by DST-ICPS with Rs. 38,84,329 during 2019–2022.
During 2009–2021, he published 36 international journal papers, 13 international conference papers, and 6 national conference papers, with a cumulative impact factor of 3.01, 206 Scopus citations, 300 Google Scholar citations, and an h-index of 9. His research guidance includes 2 completed and 5 ongoing Ph.D. thesis advisings, along with 24 completed and 1 ongoing Master's thesis advising.
