Dr. Aldin Justin Sundararaj is an Assistant Professor (Selection Grade) in the Division of Aerospace Engineering at Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, having joined the institution on 3 May 2010. He holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.E. in Engineering Design from Karunya University, and a Ph.D. in Propulsion from Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He also served as a Project Consultant in the Division of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras from November 2023 to February 2024.
Dr. Aldin Justin Sundararaj has 14 years of teaching and research experience and one year of industry experience. His area of specialization is Propulsion and Shock Waves, with research interests in ignition, energetic propellants, combustion, shock waves, detonation, and heat transfer. He teaches core aerospace subjects including Aircraft Propulsion, Rocket Propulsion, Cryogenic Propulsion, Aerospace Propulsion, and Advanced Propulsion Technology.
His research contributions include publications indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and other recognized databases, along with numerous national and international conference presentations. He holds two Indian patents, has guided five Ph.D. scholars, five postgraduate projects, and over fifty undergraduate projects, and has secured multiple competitive research grants from organizations including DRDO, DRDL, SERB, TNSCST, ISRO, and BrahMos Aerospace. He also serves as a Board of Studies member for three institutions and is an active member of several professional societies related to engineering, combustion, shock waves, and cryogenics.
Dr. Aldin Justin Sundararaj has received several prestigious recognitions, including the Achievers Award from Karunya University, the Young Achiever Award and Young Engineer Award from the Institution of Engineers (India), the India–Israel Fellowship, and the SERB Travel Grant. He coordinates several institutional quality assurance and accreditation initiatives, leads the Drone Technology for Agriculture Mission, manages the Propulsion and High Enthalpy Laboratory, and contributes to Divisional activities involving innovation, rankings, alumni engagement, and academic quality enhancement.
