The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 1986. It has grown in leaps and bounds along with its parent institution
to bless our society and our Nation with 15 batches of its alumni. It has been accredited by the National Board of Accrediation (NBA).
The department offers 1. B.E. Civil Engineering 2. M.E. Structural Engineering 3.Ph.D. Civil Engineering
Prime focus is laid on Design of Multi-storeyed Buildings, Transportation Engineering,
Environmental Engineering, High Performance Concrete, Optimal Design of Structures, GIS,
GPS, Design of Steel Structures, Water Resources Planning and Management & Non-Destructive
Testing of Structures. The department has a proud record of producing maximum University ranks.
This Department has been recognized as Research Centre by Anna University for Ph.D. work.
Currently seven candidates have registered for their Ph.D. programs.

Processing
& Engineering
The Department of Food Processing and
Engineering, under the School of Biotechnology was started in
September 2005 to tap the unexplored potential of this sunrise
industry in India. The department aims to provide value based
education with core competence to the students. Graduates of the
undergraduate program are expected to possess knowledge of the
fundamentals of Food process engineering. This is the first
University in India to give such an importance to Food
Processing area on all its aspects namely, Food Safety Assurance
Testing Laboratory with sophisticated analytical facilities, R&D
Laboratory, Food Processing Training Centre and Food Processing
Engineering academic courses with the generous support from the
Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India.

Engineering was established in the year 1994. It is well equipped with highly
commendable facilities and is effectively guided
by a set of devoted and diligent staff members.
The department offers P.G course in M.E - Power
Electronics and Drives.
At present the Department has 21 Teaching
Faculty, 3 Technical Assistants and 1 Office
Assistant. It has 198 Students in U.G Programme
and 50 Students in P.G Programme. Every year the
intake strength of the students for U.G
Programme is 60+10% [Lateral entry] and for P.G
Programme is 25. The department has been awarded
A grade by National Board Of Accreditation.
The Department has well equipped laboratories
such as Electrical Machines Lab, Power
Electronics Lab, Power system simulation lab,
Electrical Workshop.

Engineering was established in the year
1986. It is well equipped with
highly commendable facilities and is
effectively guided by a set of devoted and
diligent staff members. The department offer
both Under Graduate and Post Graduate
Programmes. The PG Programme includes
Applied Electronics and VLSI Design.
The department
has 38 teaching faculty, six technical
assistants and one office assistant. It has
523 students in UG Programme (excluding I
B.E. students) and 64 students in PG
Programme. The department intake strength of
students in the academic year 2007-2008 for
UG programme is 180 + 10% lateral entry and
for PG programme is 25 + 10%. The department
has been awarded A grade by National Board
of Accreditation.

Department was started in June 1995,
offering B.E. (EIE) programme under the
affiliation of Bharathiyar University. With
excellent laboratory and research facility
the programme was continuously affiliated by
the Bharathiyar University and later by Anna
University. Accreditation of NBA committee
for the under graduate programme of the
division was obtained in the year 2001. The
Post Graduate Programme, M.E. (Control &
Instrumentation) was started September 2003
under the affiliation of Anna University.
The Department also offers part time and
full time Research programmes leading to
Ph.D.

Mechanical Sciences has been one of the core
branches, which was started right at the
inception of the Karunya University in 1986. The
School of Mechanical Sciences has grown from
strength to strength and as on date, it has
matured into a pillar of strength for the
Karunya University. Currently the School is
steered by the able leadership of Prof.T.Michael.
N. Kumar, Ph.D.(IIT-M), F.I.E., M.E.(IISc-Aero.),
S.M.I.E.E.E.
In order to meet the manpower of the rapidly
growing Industrial base and infrastructure of
our country, the Karunya University is at
present offering three PG courses in the thrust
areas of Thermal Science, CAD/CAM & Engineering
Design. The courses have been designed in such a
way that students get the necessary depth in the
chosen area of specialization while absorbing
the necessary back up knowledge so as to
maintain the required breadth in the general
Technological Scenario. Special efforts have
been made to enable the students to translate
the theoretical knowledge with laboratory &
field level experience.

enormous potential lying hidden among the students. The Karunya sports
complex is well known for its best facilitated grounds for various
sporting disciplines. The KU has attained quite a reputation in sports
activities especially among the professional institutions by winning
several prestigious tournaments conducted in various levels. The
competitive spirit is encouraged as the University organizes a variety of
tournaments of repute, coaching camps and establishment of sporting
